Of course my readers matter, don't get me wrong! It's just that I don't necessarily write for the readers. I write for me. I write because my brain fills with stories when I'm driving, when I'm eating, when I'm walking ... hell, I've woken out of a dead sleep many times, reaching for a pen and paper to write down an idea that came to me while I was unconscious.
Long before I was a writer, I was a reader. I have always been a reader. Since I learned to read, I've had a book in my hand. In my early adulthood, I wouldn't have been caught dead with a romance novel. I was a horror enthusiast through and through. I started off with Dean Koontz, then moved on to Stephen King. When I found Richard Laymon, the horror lover in me wept with joy. Layton passed away years ago, but his sick, twisted stories of some of my greatest fears will live on forever, and I am a fan for life.
Enter the digital age. Free books everywhere! My first ever paranormal romance was a freebie on iBooks by Nicky Charles. Once again, I was swept away. I devoured every paranormal book I could get my hands on, the internet making that easier than ever. I developed a love for vampires, werewolves and warlocks that I will never lose.
Then I found Jasina Wilder's books. DAMN. Erotic romance is GOOD! This was when I started noticing that not every author out there was actually published. There was a whole world of indies out there that I knew nothing about. Over the last four or five years, I have also developed a love for romance, no longer thinking it lame or cheesy. Some are, yes. But some are incredible. In this time, I discovered indies, and I've never looked back.
When I started writing, I went into it for fun. I posted it on Amazon with an intent to sell, but it was still just for fun. Now it's my full time job, and I have never been more satisfied with my career.
Here's where my conundrum comes in. I love stories over a wide range of genres. My MC books were just the first characters to speak to me. But now I have a million of them in there, screaming for me to tell their stories. So, I've decided, screw it. I am not a genre. I am a reader who likes to write the stories that I myself like to read!
Here is what you can expect from me in the coming months:
- I will finish up the Kings of Korruption MC series after adding on an additional two books.
- I have a romantic comedy in the works that makes me laugh and swoon just thinking about it.
- I have a zombie apocalypse romance story that has been in my head for years. It's time to write that shit down!
- I have an angsty contemporary romance story with a twist that I can't wait to tell.
- I have a spin off series from the Kings of Korruption MC that will blow your mind!
Stay tuned folks, because I am challenging myself to become my own favourite author, and I hope you all enjoy the ride!
